Freeland Borough November Elections
The Freeland Borough council run was the only contest on the North Side balloting scene - and it produced somewhat of a mild surprise.
John Potoskie, R, was the top vote-getter with 395 votes borough-wide; Dave Mahon, D, came in second with 381 votes; and incumbent Jerry Allen, R, won the third slot with 349 votes.
The remaining councilmanic tallies were: Dave Ashman, D, 275, James Mulhall, R, 262, and Brian Lutz, D, 307.
Potoskie regained a seat on council that he held from 1998 to 2001. He is a district manager in the circulation department of the Standard-Speaker.
Mahon won a full four-year term after serving for the past two months in an appointive position after then-council president Brian Lutz resigned his entire council position. Mahon is employed by Garland Commerical Industries.
Allen served on council for four years and his term would have expired in December, but he will remain on council for another four years. Allen, retired, donated his council salary for the past four months back to the community.
Lutz's name appeared on the ballot in an almost relucant manner, as when he resigned and after he had won a primary nomination, he failed to be able to get his name off the general election ballot.
Ashman and Mulhall were bidding for a political post for the first time.
